"Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
The University of California at Berkeley reported a crime on its campus that I wish to bring to your attention.
Yesterday morning, shortly after midnight, two armed men crawled through a window in a public area of a residence hall and went to a room where two students were sleeping. They woke up the two students and robbed them at gunpoint. They escaped with a laptop and a wallet. Fortunately, the Berkeley students were not injured although both were frightened by the incident. Police have not made an arrest in the case.
While this incident occurred in Berkeley, it serves as a reminder that even in San Rafael we must all be vigilant in protecting ourselves and promoting campus safety. We should not walk alone after dark. Resident students should lock the doors to their rooms and make sure that entry doors to the halls are closed and locked behind them. Windows in hallways and public areas should be locked. Everybody on campus should report suspicious persons on campus.
In the recent crime and safety report I emailed to everyone on campus last week, I pointed out that a number of laptops have been stolen from campus. Most of those laptops were taken from faculty and staff offices. It is important to secure laptops or to take them home. Offices should be locked at night and when nobody is in them.
Let’s work together in keeping our campus safe and secure. Let’s keep Dominican a great place to be.
As ever,
John Kennedy
Vice President for Student Life"
In short, be careful out there.
